WordPress

WordPress changes go through a handoff. The agent writes the change and tells you where it goes. You make it in your WordPress admin, then tell the agent it's live.

Tell the agent in Setup

  • Your SEO plugin: Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, another, or none.
  • Your editor: the block editor, the classic editor, or a page builder such as Elementor.
  • Whether you use a caching plugin, or your host caches pages for you.
  • Who makes the changes: you, or someone you'll pass handoffs to.

SEO titles and meta descriptions

They're what Google usually shows for your page in search results. In WordPress they come from your SEO plugin.

Yoast SEO

  1. 1Open the post or page in the editor.
  2. 2Open the Yoast SEO sidebar and choose Search appearance.
  3. 3Replace the SEO title and Meta description with the text from the handoff.
  4. 4Update the post or page.

Your homepage works differently if it shows your latest posts rather than a page. Then its title and description are under Yoast SEO, Settings, Content types, Homepage. If your homepage is a page, edit that page as above.

Rank Math

  1. 1Open the post or page in the editor.
  2. 2In the Rank Math panel's General tab, click Edit Snippet.
  3. 3Replace the Title and Description with the text from the handoff.
  4. 4Close the snippet editor and update the post or page.

No SEO plugin

WordPress has no meta description field of its own, and the title Google sees comes from your post title and your theme. Tell the agent. It will stick to changes you can make.

Content, headings, and links

Open the post or page, find the section the handoff names, and replace the text. For a new internal link, select the words the handoff gives and link them to the address it gives. Then update.

New pages and posts

A handoff for a new page gives you its title, its address (the slug), its content, its SEO title and description, and the existing pages that should link to it. Create the page or post, set the slug to match, fill in the SEO fields, and publish. Then add the links from the other pages.

After you publish

  1. 1If you use a caching plugin or your host caches pages, clear the cache.
  2. 2Open the live page and check the change is there.
  3. 3Tell the agent it's live, with the page's address. Why it matters.
  4. 4Optional: request indexing in Search Console.

Menus look different?

SEO plugins rename their menus from time to time. If a label here doesn't match your screen, ask the agent where the field is in your version. These steps follow the Yoast SEO and Rank Math help pages as of September 2026.
